“What classes are you taking in the spring?” “Are you and your girlfriend moving in together off campus next semester?” “What field are you going to go into after graduation?” Everywhere you go people are asking about the future—and you are too. Still, it can be easy to become so focused on the future that you forget to enjoy the present. Maybe you’re at a party with friends, but all you can think is, “Man, I have so much homework to do before Monday.” Or you have a rare snow day off from classes, and you find yourself worrying about whether you’ll be able to find an internship next semester. It’s time to hit the pause button. You are thinking about homework and internships when you should be living it up! Bring yourself back into the present by taking a deep breath (or five), telling your thoughts to be quiet, and observing your surroundings. This simple act of mindfulness will help you feel more connected to your own spirit—and the universe at work around you.
